Queer Families: Past, Present, and Promise

On June 24th, the Quinnipiac University School of Law and the Connecticut Bar Foundation presented the symposium “Queer Families: Past, Present, and Promise.” This program explored the history and development of the rights of LGBTQ+ families. The panel defined the status quo in Connecticut, with a focus on the state’s new Parentage Act.

The first panel, the past, examined how queer families came to be, the road to recognition and protection, the legal challenges they have overcome, and issues they still face.

The second panel, which included RRD partner Beck Fineman focused on the present time and the current state of the law in Connecticut.

The third panel, “The Promise of Queer Families: We are Family” discussed the challenges queer-identified families and family members are facing.
