Michael R. Young is a partner at the firm practicing primarily in the area of civil defense. Specific areas of work include premises liability and personal injury. Prior to joining the firm, Michael practiced in the aforementioned areas as well as uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Michael has tried cases to verdict in several judicial districts across the state. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Michael Young has over 18 years of experience in defending individuals, corporations, and organizations in various litigation matters, including trials, commercial litigation, civil litigation, and insurance law. Michael has successfully handled complex and high-stakes cases, delivering favorable outcomes for his clients and enhancing the reputation of our firm.

Michael tried eighteen (18) cases to a jury verdict and obtained a defense verdict in half of the cases. In the cases that resulted in a plaintiff’s verdict, all of them were for amounts below the final demand.

Michael is also passionate about combating climate change and advancing sustainability and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) practices in the legal industry and beyond. Michael completed courses in sustainability law from Berkeley Law Executive Education and MIT Professional Education, and he is a certified sustainability excellence associate (SEA – ISSP). Michael leverages his knowledge and skills to advise and support clients on sustainability-related risks and opportunities, as well as to promote a culture of environmental and social responsibility within our firm and our community.

Michael attended Plattsburgh State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He received his juris doctorate from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where he also served as the editor-in-chief for the Quinnipiac Probate Law Journal.

Michael resides in Wilton, Connecticut with his wife and two children.

Representative Experience

  • Obtained dismissal of a slander of title count brought against client by establishing that the plaintiff violated Connecticut’s Anti-SLAPP statute.
  • Brought a case to a successful settlement on behalf of clients who did not have insurance and were faced with significant exposure after their dog, who they acquired as part of a compassionate dog rescue, bit and severely injured plaintiff’s face.
  • Court sustained objection to plaintiff’s motion to compel appraisal and stay proceedings filed on behalf of client insurer, in case where plaintiff alleged that it obtained a valid and enforceable assignment from client’s insured.
  • Court granted motion to strike a recklessness/intentional conduct count under the Connecticut Products Liability Act (CPLA) that was filed against clients.
  • Obtained dismissal of an apportionment complaint brought on behalf of a product manufacturer against my clients, the plaintiff’s grandparents, in a case where minor plaintiff alleged injuries that stemmed from ingesting clear liquid fuel used for a candle. The court held that the Connecticut Products Liability Act (CPLA) was the exclusive remedy, and the statute did not permit apportionment pursuant to CGS §52-572h.
  • Obtained dismissal of counts sounding in unlawful entry/detainer and Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices (CUTPA) brought against a national company that provided winterization and maintenance services for a property in foreclosure. Secured a full withdrawal of additional counts sounding in trespass.
  • Obtained dismissal of claims for bad faith, Connecticut Unfair Insurance Practices Act (CUIPA) and breach of contract brought against insurer.
  • Obtained a withdrawal of claims for failure to rescue and negligence brought against a boat operator/owner by the Estate of an individual who drowned.
  • Defended insurer in a case brought pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes §38a- 321, which included allegations that it improperly declined to defend and indemnify it’s insured, a psychologist, in a case involving allegations of assault in the therapist/patient relationship.
