Charles A. Deluca has litigated cases on behalf of individuals, businesses and insurance carriers since 1977. His primary areas of practice are major tort litigation, products liability, insurance coverage, transportation, professional liability and business litigation. Over his 40 years of practice, he has enjoyed exceptional success in his many jury trials.
Chuck is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). The ACTL is composed of the best of the trial bar in the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the ACTL is extended by invitation to only those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose careers have been marked by the highest ethical standards, professionalism and civility. Fellowship is limited to 1% of the Bar and Fellows must have a minimum of 15 years of experience.
In addition to being invited to join the ACTL, Chuck was also invited to join the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL). The IATL is limited to 500 attorneys from around the world whose skill, ability, character and integrity qualify them for membership. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and currently serves as the President of the Connecticut Chapter. Chuck has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2005 and was selected for inclusion in Connecticut Super Lawyers® every year since 2006. The Best Lawyers in America® named Chuck Lawyer of the Year four times: 2021, 2019, 2017, and 2012. He is additionally included on the list of Top 50 Connecticut Super Lawyers from 2011-2016, 2018 and 2020 and Top 10 Connecticut Super Lawyers for 2014-2016.
Chuck has received the highest Martindale-Hubbell rating of AV and has held that rating for 30 years.
He is a past president of the Fairfield County Bar Association and the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association. He has also served on the Connecticut Bar Association Committee on Professional Ethics and has served as the state representative for the Defense Research Institute.
He has been appointed to the Connecticut Supreme Court Chief Justice’s Civil Commission. Chuck chaired the discovery subcommittee of the Civil Commission and authored the e-discovery rules for the State of Connecticut. He was also appointed by the Chief Justice to the Jury Selection Task Force to study the issue of racial discrimination in the selection of juries.
The Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association has awarded Chuck the President’s Award for Excellence. The award is presented to a civil defense attorney who has provided outstanding and distinguished service and contributions to the CDLA and the defense bar, excellence in practice, and the development and furtherance of the fair administration of justice and application of law to society.
In addition to being an active trial attorney, Chuck has been featured in numerous trial advocacy programs. He has provided trial advocacy instruction to the Travelers Trial Advocacy School, has been a guest lecturer on trial technique at Yale Law School, and has done trial demonstrations on behalf of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers, the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association and The American College of Trial Lawyers.
