Catherine S. Nietzel was formerly a partner in the firm from 2004 until 2020. After taking a brief leave, and revocable retirement, to relocate to be closer to her adult children, she returned to counsel status in 2023. She practices in the firm’s litigation department, primarily defending civil suits in the areas of personal injury and professional malpractice. Catherine was previously board certified in civil trial advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation of the jury trial. ABOTA is an invitation-only organization and there are less than one hundred ABOTA members in Connecticut. Catherine has tried forty cases to verdict before a jury.

Representative Experience
Catherine’s most recent experience included a successful defense in 2021 before the Connecticut Supreme Court of a decision at the trial court level in favor of a Connecticut school district whose employee, a high school English teacher, engaged in inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature with three high school students. The Supreme Court affirmed the finding that, as a matter of law, school personnel had no reason to suspect the teacher’s conduct with the students and that they were not negligent in failing to protect the students against the teacher’s conduct.
Catherine handled and tried cases before the Federal District Court and the State Courts, trial level and appellate. She also represented professionals before state licensing boards.
